Cisco Meraki MX105 Security & SD-WAN Appliance: frequently asked questions

Does the Meraki MX105 require a license?

Yes. Every Meraki device needs an active cloud license; without one the MX105 stops passing traffic. Choose Enterprise, Advanced Security or Secure SD-WAN Plus in a 1, 3 or 5-year term. Request a quote and we will price the hardware and the license term together.

How many users can the MX105 support?

Cisco Meraki recommends the MX105 for up to 750 users or devices per site, with 500 site-to-site VPN tunnels recommended (1,000 maximum).

What is the firewall throughput of the MX105?

The MX Family datasheet lists 3 Gbps stateful firewall throughput and 1.5 Gbps with advanced security enabled. Cisco's current MX Sizing Guide lists up to 5 Gbps stateful and 3.5 Gbps site-to-site VPN on MX 19.1x firmware.

Does the MX105 have redundant power?

Yes. The MX105 ships with two 150 W modular AC power supplies and two fans, both available as replacement parts. Note that two power cords are required.

Which WAN connections can I use?

Two 10 GbE SFP+ WAN ports, two 2.5 GbE RJ45 WAN ports and a USB port for a cellular modem, so you can combine fiber, copper and LTE/5G for SD-WAN failover. See our dual-WAN failover case study for a real deployment.
